During one of the Friday evening prayer meetings, God laid upon the hearts of the prayer group to start praying for a Men’s Ministry in ETW. This will be an avenue for male students of ETW bible classes and those in ETWE (Ekklesia) to meet regularly for encouragement and accountability, as well as praying for each other.
On 5th February 2010, David Tan from the Friday prayer group was led to spearhead this ministry. An invitation was sent for men to come together and be ministered by men. Nine brethren responded and David arranged for us to meet and get to know one another better.
We had our first meeting 20 days later in Bishan Junction 8. Over dinner, we shared our thoughts and vision for this fledging ministry. All were interested to see how this ministry could enable men within ETW and the Ekklesia to pray and support one another. God has indeed brought men from different stages of life and walks in the Lord. The present group consist of a young man about to get married, a young widower with two children, husbands, fathers, and father-in-law.
Although we come from diverse professions and ages – ranging from 26 to 62 or more in years – we could sense this oneness in the Spirit. We hope to go beyond sharing superficial stuff and create a safe and conducive environment where men can be honest, accepted and respected. Confidentiality will be maintained unless permission is given for it to be shared outside the group, including the wives.
There is also an emphasis on partnering with a church in the Philippines to reach out to youth, young adults and fathers, in a men-to-men setting. Four of us have had the privilege of seeing God at work when we were there.
Just as “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). We may not run the Ironman race nor become Ironman in movie land, but we can certainly enable each other to be spiritual Ironmen.
We meet every second Saturday of the month after Ekklesia at 6pm.
All are welcome.
